This week, we will be looking at two different issues that affect the Oak Park Community…
The mother of the young man, Rodrigio Rodriguez, who was shot at the barbershop across the street visited with teachers recently. Her son was a very successful student and was going to UC Berkeley. He was also very concerned about the Oak Park community. One of the things he wanted was for there to be a local library in Oak Park. She is asking us to support her request for a library. Please write three to five sentences listing why we need a library in Oak Park. Here are some ideas to use:
- The nearest library, Colonial Heights, is far;
- Students need the library for research and to get books;
- The library would be an important resource and place for the community;
- Why you enjoy going to the library.
Next, we will be studying about refugees this week. Refugees are people who have to leave their homeland because they fear death, torture, or some other danger. If you are in a family or have family members who were refugees, please ask them if you can share their stories with our class. This will be a sort of homework.
